Information on Camp FCC - June 9 - 11, 2017 in Medford, NJ

Below is some information about Camp FCC which is sponsored by FCC SJ. It is a great weekend and an easy drive from our area. Check it out and hope to see you there!

Please join us for our 16th annual family camp June 9-11, 2017 in beautiful Medford, NJ.
If your complete registration packet is postmarked by March 15, 2017 there is a $10 discount per camper.
We sold out last year and had to turn campers away, so please register now!

Philadelphia Orchestra: February 4th - RSVP now!

Come and join FCC families as well as Bethany Christian Services in our First 2017 Kimmel Center Family Concert by the Philadelphia Orchestra. 
Please RSVP soon for the concert and confirm if you want the optional lunch in Chinatown.
(This is the day before our Chinese New Year party, making it quite a weekend! HOORAY!)   Watch for the Firebird in this concert!

Saturday February 4, at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts Broad and Spruce Streets, Philadelphia:
  
10:00 am- 11am Perelman Theater--Pre-Concert Adventure!  (to be announced) -optional
11:30 am- 12:30pm Verizon Hall--Philadelphia Orchestra!    Followed by optional lunch.

Program:  Who Stole the Mona Lisa?
Can you imagine one of the most famous paintings ever being stolen from the great museum in Paris called the Louvre?   Pablo Picasso, legendary modern painter was considered to be the thief!   Listen to the orchestra play the fabulous multi-part music from The Firebird by Stravinsky while a host of strange guests show up in Micah Chambers-Goldberg's film.

The program starts with the zest of Carl Maria von Weber's Overture to Oberon.

Come celebrate Chinese New Year with Families with Children from China Delaware Valley!

Chinese New Year Celebration
Sunday, Feb. 5th  Noon - 3pm        Lai Lai Garden  1144 Dekalb Pike in Blue Bell PA
Cost:  $25/adult;  $15/child ages 9-17;  $10/ child ages 4-8; under 4 years old free
(includes tax and gratuity.)   Activities, contests, social time, delicious meal served at 1pm!

Save the Date for Chinese New Year Celebration: February 5, 2017

Dear FCC DV Families,
 
Our annual Chinese New Year celebration at Lai Lai Garden is being planned for Sunday, February 5th from 12 Noon until 3pm.

The address is 1144 Dekalb Pike, Blue Bell, PA 19422.   DeKalb Pike is Route 202 and the restaurant is near Center Square.

Here are 2 more dates to save:   
Saturday, Feb. 4 and Saturday April 22 at 11:30am for Philadelphia Orchestra Family Concerts and optional Chinatown Lunch.

Our holiday party at Upper Dublin Lutheran Church was lots of fun.    It was good to catch up and the kids had a fun time.

New:  You can sign a postcard for the Adoptee Citizenship Act (ACA) to help older adoptees who were never granted citizenship. 
Some information:  In November 2015, Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and co-signers Senators Dan Coates (R-IN) and Jeff Merkley (D-OR) introduced the Adoptee Citizenship Act (ACA) of 2015, S.2275, to the public. Kirsten Gilbrand (D-NY) and Brian Schatz (D-HI) also became co-signers.  The Child Citizenship Act left an estimated 35,000-40,000 intercountry adoptees born before February 28, 1983 without citizenship. 18,000 of these adoptees are Asian American.

Shanghai Acrobats at the Kimmel Center - October 30th. Response needed soon!!

On Sunday, October 30th, 2pmcome see the Shanghai Acrobats at the Kimmel Center.
Order tickets early as they may sell out.   If possible, by Wednesday, Sept. 14th complete and mail your order form with payment.  
"Shanghai Nights" from China should be one amazing show!  More info is at Kimmel.org
Tickets are $18 for 3rd Tier and $27 for 2nd Tier.   Financial assistance is available especially for large families.  Use the attached form  Click here.
The attachment states how to make out checks and where to mail the order.     We will also explore the option of going out for dinner after the performance.

Autumn Moon Festival - Update!!

You are invited to the Autumn Moon Festival Dinner, Sunday, September 25th, 4pm to 7pm .
Update---The location is Calvary United Methodist Church, 16 Park Avenue, Ambler PA 19002, 
near the CVS on 272 E Butler Ave. in the Borough of Ambler.   

Celebrate this Chinese holiday with a festive meal (bring a food item to share), Chinese family poetic sayings, and moon cake tasting.   We plan to build in time before dinner for families to share about their travels to China.   We also plan a special birth parent search session after dinner.  This conversation will be led by Wendy Mailman, an adoptive parent.  Both pre and post dinner sessions are optional.  Attend one, both, or just come for the 5pm meal.   If you have a craft to share with kids, let us know.     RSVP to David Morgan at presidentdvfcc@yahoo.com.

     This event is planned for the Ambler PA area.  More details to be announced soon.
Conversation about Travels to China     4pm-4:45pm  (This talk is optional)  Share about your trip.
 Dinner 5pm-5:45pm     Bring a dish to share.   We are planning for “moon cake” dessert
  Poems and Greetings from Autumn Moon Festival are to be shared.
Conversation about Birth Family Searching Experiences 6pm to 7pm.  (optional)
 Conversations will be co-facilitated by Susan Morgan and Wendy Mailman.   The Church fellowship hall will have kitchen facilities.

“Shanghai Nights”   Come to see this dazzling show in Verizon Hall.    See reservation form.    We will have an option for dinner.

10 Tier 2 tickets @ $27 each are reserved for us.

 Saturday, November 12         Trip to Pearl Buck Museum:
          Christmas/Holiday Tree Display and Guided Tour 11am-12noon
Lunch options:   a) bring your own picnic lunch or b) have lunch in the Pearl Buck dining hall.     This year we look forward to enjoying a simple visit of the famous home for adoptive children.
There is an admission fee:  $12 for adults and $7 for children
Financial aid is available for families who could use it, especially larger families with many tickets to buy.

  Saturday, December 17 (tentative date)   Annual Holiday Party at 4:30pm
Perhaps this will be a whole meal with contributions from each family or a cookie exchange with hot chocolate and crafts and games.

Looking ahead, near January 28, 2017 will be the next new year (year of the rooster).  We plan to have our annual banquet at Lai Lai Garden.   
There are Philadelphia Orchestra Family Concerts with optional Chinatown lunch on Saturday Feb 4 and Saturday April 22.

There will be opportunities for more travel discussions linked with Chinese musicians/artists, and a picnic at the park.   We will sometimes collaborate with other Chinese organizations.
